The buzz around the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
